Good CS Colleges in NYC?!

Can you tell me which colleges in NYC have a strong CS program? I'm planning to do software engineering. My SAT score was 1910 and my GPA is 3.68. Which colleges would be a match for me?

NYU seems like a good match for you, the school constantly ranks very high in CS. Only problem is that it is expensive.

Regarding NYU, there are NYU and PINYU, which are merging (PINYU will become NYU’s engineering division). Pre-merger, NYU had a poor reputation for financial aid, while PINYU had a good reputation. Both offered CS pre-merger, so you may want to ask them what the effect of the merger will be on the CS major, as well as financial aid.

Are there any more other than NYU and cuny?

Columbia shouldn’t be too bad!

I’m pretty sure that I can’t get into NYU and Columbia with my stats. I mean is there schools like Fordham, Pace, NYIT that have strong CS programs (one that can get me a job in the future).

Is Hoboken OK? I know a couple of people who got CS degrees at Stevens Institute of Technology, and they seemed to like it.

I’ve heard Binghamton has a good Computer Science program

Thanks but I’m looking to commute in NYC. Anyone else?

Not even PINYU, which has historically been less selective than NYU proper and better with financial aid? Also, NYU proper is less selective than Columbia, so it is not completely out of the question.

Is Stony Brook out of commuting distance?

Also consider the CUNYs.

Be sure to check net price calculators.

PINYU merges with NYU in jan so it is now NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. Fall applicants have to apply to NYU to be considered for its engineering school.

Yea unfortunately it is

Does Fordham have a good CS program? One that can prepare me for a career in computer programming or software engineering/developing?

Columbia, NYU, and SUNY-Stony brook

Fordham is fine.

Bump 10char

Stony Brook alumnus here; I am pretty biased. Let’s put it this way, let me tell you what you care about.

1)We have at any time, 400+ companies recruiting here for us Computer Scientists.

2)We are top 10 in ROI in the NATION as per PayScale.com

3)We have great faculty, and we are constantly hiring. I think we have 60 faculty members as of now; compare that to a CUNY or NYU, lol.

4)We have VERY smart students; our alumni include the president of Stanford, winners of ACM competitions, the Mac was built by our alum, and many more. I think 10-15% of Google NY is Stony Brook alum, which makes sense because of our massive size. Google is pretty much always on campus.

5)We have a brand spanking new CS building coming soon($100 million), merged with our old CS building($50 million), that should put us at the size of some universities…

6)We have over a thousand students in CS, which means you will meet and network with great people.

7)I had 9 offers(actually, many more, 9 were prominent). 4 from top Silicon valley firms, to name a couple, Microsoft, Apple… ;)

Best,

If you get into Columbia, you will have to dorm as a freshmen! They will cover your dorm expenses if necessary even if you live within the 5 boroughs. NYU Poly does have a very strong computer science program
