Hi Everyone!

I'll be an Engineering major in the fall, and I was wondering what dorms I should consider? I already know I want to try to get into ISR, but if that doesn't happen, where should my back-ups be? I'm generally a pretty serious student, and while I like to have fun, I'm looking for a slightly quieter, though still friendly, dorm.

ISR and Hendrick House are 2 good engineering dorms. They’re both close to the engineering quad and are both pretty quiet and good for a serious student.

Hendrick isn’t a university dorm, however. It’s private certified housing, which is a bit more expensive, but usually a bit better in terms of accommodations. Most of your classes the first year will be on the quad, however.

The East building (slightly older) with a 14 meal plan came out to be about the same for me in terms of price. I compared HH and ISR with friends from ISR and the food was better and the rooms were larger at HH, along with weekly housekeeping. ISR has bigger computer lab, and slightly better entertainment rooms. And the meal plans at ISR can be used at any other university dorm cafeteria, whereas HH meals can only be used at HH, armory, and presby halls. Oh and HH has semi-private bathrooms, while ISR has bathrooms for the floor.

I stayed at both for summer camps. I would say that HH’s rooms are much bigger and nicer than at ISR. However, I think the meal plans in university housing are much better. (bc you can eat at any dorm with a university meal plan) If I end up going here, I’ll probably end up at ISR though. I guess it sort of depends if you’re into the private housing idea or not.
