Ok I got into college of engineering and I'm going to be a freshman. What dorms do you guys recommend for the freshmen? I know some are real bad and some are excellent. Also, do you guys recommend going to north campus for dorms since I'm an engineering student? I heard its a lot quieter up there so better studying, but central campus dorms have a more energetic social life.

basically, from what I’ve gathered, you wont be spending a lot of time on north your first year as an engineering student, so unless you just prefer the quiet environment, there’s no real need to have a dorm on north your freshmen year. That being said, a lot of freshmen are placed on north. Baites I and Baites II are god-awful from what I hear, though Bursley is really nice, has a place to eat, and the social life isn’t bad as far as north-campus goes. Otherwise, all the quads are about the same, quality and socially, so personally I recommend Bursley or a quad depending on your preference.

I heard Baites sucks because its so far away from everything, but the rooms seem nice.

Look at the pics on Michigan’s website. Markley has crappy dorms, but is the most fun (and probably the loudest).

I really hope I end up anywhere on central. I wanted to request a roommate though, and I heard people who request roommates usually end up on North. Is this true? :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

I can’t decide where I want to live next year, I just know I want a single and prefer to stay within a couple blocks of where I live now. I am thinking I’ll try for South Quad, but North Quad’s page says it has a kitchen… but that’s really far away from all the restaurants BF and I frequent. That is a tough decision. :(

Though I suppose there’s that chance they’ll be full by the time I get to pick anyway.

^ You’ll be a Senior, right? I’m sure U of M will honor your requests being your last undergrad year and all. Watch though, I’m gonna get stuck in Bates T___T.
