what are good dorms at UO? I'm looking for some good dorms that are near the various academic buildings and other buildings(library, athletic complex, dinning hall, etc).

I don’t know about all of them, but I know Walton is pretty old and penitentiary-feeling, but it’s a good location as far as academic buildings, dining options, athletic complex, etc.

The Living Learning Complex next door is newer and looks much nicer, but I haven’t seen the inside of any of the room. It however could give your the best mix of location and room/building quality.

I have heard the roomiest dorm rooms are at Barnhart, but you trade off location for that since it’s several blocks off campus. It has its own dining facility, but is far from the other dining options, far from the athletic center, and also farther from the academic buildings.

I don’t know much about the other halls.

Frankly, none of the dorms at UO are particularly nice other than the Living Learning Center which is by far the newest and has the best location. Dorms are a weak point at UO, but it’s all part of the freshman experience I guess. I’d look for resident FIGs that are of interest because that’s a great way to meet people the first few months rather than worry about particular dorm buildings. In terms of dining, you can use any of the dorm dining facilities on campus as part of your meal plan so that part doesn’t really matter.

Isn’t Bean the worst dorms; that is what I read about in the College *******-dorm view of it.

Did it say why it was worse? It looks to be similar in terms of architecture, age, etc. to the other dorms. It’s probably a little newer than Walton, Hamilton, etc. but doesn’t look appreciably different from the outside.

I was in Bean years ago and it wasn’t much different than any of the other dorms. It’s a bit further away than Hamilton though, but not that much further. I’d rather be in Bean than Riley or Barnhardt which are way on the other side of campus. Generally speaking I think most students want the Living Learning Center or Hamilton, but really the rooms aren’t much different from one dorm to the next.
