This year, I am taking psychology and have found myself interested in majoring in the field. However, I know that psychology jobs are hard to find, so I'd prefer to dual major in something else that will make it easier to find a job. I'm not really a natural science or math person, so I would prefer a field in the social sciences or humanities. Any ideas? Help if you know anything please!

Until you wrote “I’m not really a natural science or math person” I was going to suggest business, which could, for example, pave the way to a job in HR. As it is, you’re looking to pair your psychology major with another field that’s hard to get a job with. I’m afraid a double major in social sciences or social science/humanities won’t necessarily put you in a more employable category.

I believe that business is actually considered a social science. When I said I wasn’t interested in natural science or math, I was referring more to areas such as calculus, biology, and chemistry. Business is definitely something I’ll look into though; thanks for the suggestion.

As a psychologist, my first inclination would be to tell you Biology or Math. However, if you were to bar those areas, business would be my next suggestion. It somewhat depends on the area of psychology you would see yourself going into. Education would be another good bet.

Why do you feel like you need to major in something because you’re interested in it? Psychology appears to offer you no benefit other than to satisfy your own curiosity, so why don’t you read about it on your own free time? I like reading about societies (one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read recently is Guns, Germs and Steel), but I didn’t go major in geography or anthropology; I majored in electrical engineering because it will pay the bills.

My D is a current Psychology major and she said that she has quite a few classmates that are also trying to major in Economics. They want to get into Behavioral Economics. It sounds like a tough double major. Other classmates are considering a double major with Communications in the hopes of going into the Advertising, Marketing or Public Relations field.

question–what kind of jobs could psych+bio lead to (other than med school)?
