During the first part of highschool I was in a NRA junior rifle club where I earned an expert rating and was working on my distinguished expert (most advanced badge you can get). How does this look as an EC?

I think it depends on what school you are applying to. A liberal school like Berkeley won't like it. I really don't know, though.

Hmm, most of the schools I'm applying to are pretty liberal. Do you guys think it's safer to not mention it?

if your still doing it and are passionate about it.
A good adcom won't let their personal beliefs about gun control get in the way esp. if you truly are expert at it.

Plus it definitely stands out from most other apps.

For sure put it on.

BUMP!

I think I will include it - however, I stopped doing it half way through highschool - that doesn't make it unworthy of mention, does it?

I say mention it, it shows you have a good amount of passion, but I wouldn't go so far as to write an essay on it

no i would not mention it. it's not good enough to make a difference in your application, but it could be a turn off to liberal admissions officers and i wouldnt take the risk and just assume that they'll put their beliefs aside. it will come back to bite you in a$$.
