good economics/finance schools

Groucho, what do you think of the firms' preferences of undergraduate majors, i.e. how well do engineering, math, and econ majors compete against those of finance or accounting, or management, especially if the buisness programs are very prestigous?

Within the next year I will start applying to Grad schools for econ. I am looking for masters programs but most of the schools I look at want a 5 yr commitment for a PhD program. I am curious how it will work if I get a masters and want to pursue a PhD at a better program. What are the possibilities of movement between Masters and Doctoral?

How is UCLA's Business-Economics program? Does it get a lot of attention?

I have put a lot of thought into graduate school and I am leaning towards going for an MBA at CMU or NYU with a strong concentration in finance/econ. Do you think this will be attractive when I apply to PhD programs and will I be able to get into a good econ program without commiting to a 5 yr program directly from undergrad?
