And if not Williams , then anywhere else!!!!!!

I just finished read "The Gatekeepers" yesterday. It's a book about a person's daily doings as a Wesleyan admission officer. One of the advice he gave in the book was that it's really hard to impress the admission officers with poems. A bunch of people do it, but VERY VERY few stand out.

I don't know the quality of your poem...It's your call to add in the poem, I would just advise caution.

Hey man I think that you were probably rejected because you asked for aid. I don't know anything about Colgate, but if it is like most other schools, financial aid for internationals is extremely limited, and less than 10% of internationals asking for financial aid get in (I've called several top lacs and all of them have given me this less than 10% number). Here is where you are at an advantage with Williams. Williams is need-blind for internationals, so your asking for aid won't affect their decision, and from what you have written down, you look like a solid applicant (writing and verbal scores are more than solid for internationals). So I'd say go ahead and apply, but write amazing essays though, and remember to try and distinguish yourself from other applicants through your thoughts and your personal side.

Also, raise your standarized test scores (SAT II writing, SAT I verbal, and Toefl (most applicants to top schools get around 285~300). First thing that admission officers will check is your English proficiency, and test scores play major role (The Williams College admission officer wanted me to take SATII Writing over other tests. Kinda shows that they actually look into these stuff)

H_R, Good news and bad news. Williams is need blind for internationals, but they accept few and give aid to even fewer. Your profile is reasonable for Williams and they are definitely trying to up their diversity percentage with internationals. In your application you should explain what you can contribute to the cultural diversity on campus, personally and through your music. If you plan to join the school band, say so. You wouldn't happen to be Muslim would you? Just my theory, but I think this is a good hook right now.

One thing for sure, if you don't appy, you won't get it. You have very little to lose by trying. Good luck!

PS, If you liked Colgate, you might also try Hamilton.

even if schools like Williams is need-blind, they also admit less than or about 10% or int'l applicants. adcoms said int'l pool tends to be competitive. But apply.
why don't you also consider middlebury ED-II (need-blind for int'l)?

hi H_R ..I'm Indian too and I got in thru ED
I think you stand a reasonable chance of getting in...just emphasize on the interest in music and write a great essay
If you could, raise the SAT I v and take a SAT II in some other subject (Ic and IIc don't look good together)
Don't worry about the aid part..Williams is quite generous AND need - blind to intls.

Thanks guys.........I know Williams is quite a reach for me......btw momrath im Hindu.......Everybody i met assured me i was in Colgate ED inspite of the aid.........i just dont know what to do now.
