Good enough?

Hello, I'm an upcoming senior in Texas, and am going to attend Texas A&M University in fall of 2013, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I'm wondering if my credentials are good enough for a decent amount of scholarships to pay for college. I know I'll be automatically accepted because of the top 10% rule. I'm hoping to get a full ride or mostly paid.

Rank: Top 2%
GPA: Unweighted: 4.00; Weighted: >4.50
SAT scores: 520 CR, 590 Math, 600 Writing.
Extracurriculars: Varsity tennis, NHS, Senior Class Officer, Church Youth Group since age 8 (held leadership role since).
Work Load:
Junior Year: IB Spanish IV, IB Math SL, IB English HL, IB Biology HL, IB ToK, IB Film SL, IB HOA HL, Varsity Tennis.
Senior Year (schedule pending): AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP English IV, AP Government, PAP Physics, Academic Decathlon, Off Period.

Provided that my SAT scores aren't so hot, I'm hoping the rest of my applications and teacher recommendations with grant me a decent amount of scholarships. Please give me any type of feedback, and as soon as possible! I'm hoping to apply as soon as possible. Thank you so much for everything!

I’m applying there too buddy. I hope to see you there in class I am going into engineering as well.

Oh on the subject of scholarships I believe everyone in the Dwight Look engineering program gets some sort of scholarship.

Since TAMU’s merit scholarships are largely test score based, it’s not likely that you’re going to get any merit scholarship money.

Schools like TAMU aren’t going to award merit based on teacher recs and memberships in clubs and sports. Those are a dime a dozen. State schools give merit for high test scores because those help with rankings. ECsand teacher recs don’t do anything for college rankings.

If you’re low income, then maybe you’ll qualify for State and fed aid, but you may still have to pay a certain amount.

Try to get your test scores up. If they’re in the 2100 plus range, you might get a good amount.

DrDavid…the Dwight Look Engineering scholarships are not given to everyone. They are competitively awarded. It also looks like they’re only for currently enrolled eng’g students, not incoming frosh. It looks like they consider the grades that the eng’g student has gotten while at TAMU and consider several other things…income, number of student in college in the family, first generation, along with accomplishments.

OP, try taking the ACT as an alternative to the SAT. Some students do much better at that.
