Good enough?

I want to major in English but I'm scared that once I go to college I'll discover that compared to everyone else, I suck at English.

My ACT score was 29 in reading & 28 in English, which I suppose is good. My teachers compliment my writing, I was the only one in my class to pass Honors English 10 with an A, and I made the highest grade in my AP Lit class on the practice tests.

But...

I have a strange feeling that the other English majors made a 33 on every ACT section, are published authors, were the only ones in their class to pass Honors English 10 with a 120 A, and took AP last year and received a 5.

Can I even compete at an easy state school?

Go to college, take English courses, see if you like them and how well you do. Then decide. Many change their majors once in college. It isn't like you have to decide this very instant your entire academic career. Students sometimes discover they aren't as interested in a subject once it reaches a certain point or find a new passion. Or they may find out, once in college, that they love what they first picked out and are very good at it!

How you do in college in a subject is a much better predictor than standardized testing or high school courses IMHO Follow your interests and don't let self-doubt stop you from at least trying.
