Good essay idea?

It’s high time to submit the applications, and I wanted someone’s opinion on this before I submit y essay. I’m applying to Harvard, Yale, Amherst, Brown and Dartmouth. My reason for transferring is mainly that my current school ‘lied’ about what my academic program would be like (e.g. in terms of module flexibility etc.) I’m writing my tranfer essay on how I discovered computer science over my gap year, and how I want to transfer because my current university (in the UK) officially said ‘there’s no freaking way you can study politics and CS’. I write all about how they complement each other, some detailed academic research I’ve done, and how I want to design an app to help people in my country achieve the political objective of greater transparency in politics, but lack the technical skills to do so (and therefore want to study CS at college, because it really is a big idea, and not something an amateur budding programmer can implement).

Do you think this is good/bad? I know you’re supposed to make it look as if a)You’re the next Obama/Bill Gates/whatever or b) show that you can contribute to the diversity of the campus. I think that I’m doing both, but it’s difficult to say on my own, so some honest opinions would be lovely

If I were you, I would avoid saying that my current school “lied.” Instead, I would say that I have a very specific interest in combining political science and computer technology and how I plan to do it. Then explain that my current college has made it clear that they will not be able to accommodate me, and that Harvard/Yale/Amherst is the perfect place for me to do my studies.

Never badmouth anything in an application. You don’t want the application reader to have any reason to suspect that you are just some sort of malcontent.

Oh yes, totally! I just said ‘lied’ in the post to cut a long story short
