I need something that warrants me not being at school yet doesn't require a doctor's visit.

Is pink eye a good one?

I have 4 so far. This was my 5th total absence in high school since freshman year so I don't cut school ever or miss it unless I feel it is important. I don't miss school often except when I'm so overloaded with crap that I have to take the day off. Friday was a good one for that. I had 5 major tests for my grades going out this quarter and I needed some major studying to ace all of them to maintain an A avg(95%+) in my classes.

Jman, I think everybody comes up with something like that. This is why I wanted something a little more credible than the same excuse everyone uses. My school is a bit anal about missing school unless you are really sick or have a very good reason. My school requires a call, note, signatures from every teacher, and then a visit to the attendance office after all my teachers sign it. Not just a simply note teacher signing or just a call from my parent.

At my school, if you're sick, you have to go to the doctor.

You can say you had a bar mitzvah to go to in the morning! That works with a parent's signature.

Another way go spend the day at home is to go to school, tell the nurse (in the morning- first class) that you just threw up and that you're still feeling sick and that you want to go home, have her call your mom/dad, and just go home. That always works, becuase it's not like they can check to see whether you really threw up or not. Camera's aren't allowed in the bathrooms.

-funeral
-"important family event"
-period pains: "stomach cramps" ---you dont have to go to the doctors for that. Some girls go through a LOT of pain, to the point of missing out on school.

When you go back to school the next day and you're completely normal-looking people won't believe you when you said you had a bad cold. You shouldn't use anything that's visible from the outside.

As long as I'm not missing anything important, I just take a "mental health day" to sleep, do homework, etc. As long as my parents are okay with it, the school is okay with it.

That was a horrible mental image you just gave me.

No one really asks any questions at my school. The teachers have nothing to do with the attendance - you just tell them you were gone this day and they won't bother asking why. Whenever I take a mental health day, my mom will just write a note that I had had an unspecified illness, and I turn it into the office.

At my school, they aren't strict, but you'll get weird looks, so I usually try to come up with some plausible excuse. They require signed note from the parent, and my mom is usually willing to play along. Basically, I cycle the following (not in strict order, obviously):

Extreme exhaustion (as in not being able to wake up)

Doctor's appointment (they do not require a note from the doctor)

Stomach problems (various)

Family issues (various; includes sister's illness [parents can't shirk obligations, no babysitter], "family emergency", etc)

Abrupt business trip

No transportation (given missing the bus, parents not able to take, can't drive)

"Cultural holidays" (am Chinese, and have gotten off for both the moon and spring festivals before, as well as one that doesn't exist)

There are a few others that I use more sporadically, but these comprise the list I use the majority of the time.

Man, I used to have perfect attendance. Then junior year and 5 APs roll around, and I'm missing days left and right...

When I can't think of an excuse, I just say "personal reasons". They will never ask you for the specific reason if you say that because it would be very rude.

"I knocked my head on the pavement and suffered a 24-hour concussion"

"I couldn't remember where the school was"

"I attended classes via telescreens"

"I only follow the Chinese calendar"

"To be honest, I never liked school anyways"

^HAHA! story of my life.

haha not really...but yeah i do skip school if i have to skip a quiz/test im not ready for. our school really doesn't care if you leave early due to sickness as long as you just say "im sick" to the registrar and have your parent sign you out.
