It is hard to find a small school with interesting, diverse, quirky students that is not also super competitive or impossible to get into, but is also full of really smart, intellectual people and at least some who can do advanced math, computer science and other science.

I'm pretty sure my son couldn't get into Reed (definitely not MIT/Cal Tech) or Haverford or that sort of school, and he is interested in everything, even though he is super smart in math, so he doesn't want to just go to an engineering type school.

It's hard to find a small quirky school that is good for a math/science type. What do you think about Goucher for that?

My son is in his second year and loves Goucher. He is not a Math major, so my opinion for your situation is limited. Goucher is definitely a small, quirky school with a friendly accepting environment. I would suggest you visit. Perhaps even arrange an overnight stay so he could visit classes. My son recieved the Dean’s Scholarship. They are definitely looking for smart male students! I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have. You can PM me if you like.

I’m a physics major, and I am more than happy with the physics and math departments at Goucher. Because it is such a small school, even the intro science classes and lower level math classes will be small as well, so you get a lot of individual attention - it’s awesome.

My son was denied by Johns Hopkins. Does anyone have experience with Goucher’s 5 yr. program culminating in a Master’s at Hopkins? The area of interest is molecular biology. Thanks!
