Good fits for me?

I'm currently a junior at a leading prep school in Atlanta. I'm starting to look at colleges right now and would like some input on some good schools for me to look at.

My stats:
GPA (so far): 3.46 weighted (out of 5.0) at very hard private school, hoping for 4.0 this semester.
PSATs: ~1900, 1300 or so M/V
SATs: Hope to be around 1400 M/V, 2000 total
Extracurriculars: Spanish Club (9,10,11), Varsity Lacrosse (9,10,11), YoungLife (9,10,11 - outside school)
Religion: Roman Catholic

I'm looking for schools with at least 5,000 people, DI sports (preferably with football), and am looking to major in communications, journalism/broadcast journalism, or sports management. A decent Greek scene would be good, and I am strictly on the left politically (though schools like UGA are still on my list).

Would like to be anywhere except the Midwest.

Any ideas?

Maybe try Villanova. They have D1 sports, including football, it's a Roman Catholic school, and I'm pretty sure they have a good communications program. Not sure what it's like politically though.

Have you looked at Auburn? It seems to fit your requirements

Auburn's a little low academic prestige-wise for me. It's used as a safety for people at my school. In the past 4 years, no one has been denied or even deferred.

How about USC in California for a reach?

you could look at lehigh, bucknell and lafayette

Look at Syracuse, UConn and Tulane.

Also, you might want to take a look at Miami.

Wake Forest, U Maryland. Agree with USC, Tulane, and Syracuse.

I've heard Wake is way conservative, can anyone comment on this for me?

It is considered to be a heavily wealthy white school in the south. It would follow that it is pretty conservative (politically).

Three out of four match a description of me (wealthy, white, in the south). If I'm to the left, should I worry about how conservative it is?

I think you'd fit in fine. Although the student body leans more to the right, I don't think the school is very politically outspoken. If anything, it's quietly moderate-conservative.

Does anyone think Colorado would be a good fit?

I think it would be an excellent fit for you. It pretty much has all of what you were looking for. Another school would be Oregon.

Any other suggestions?

You said you were catholic?

Notre Dame might be a good reach school, especially if you like football (despite their dismal season this year).

Well, my mom went there so I'm a legacy as well. I'm a ND fan and all... but not sure I would love the winters in South Bend. I could take the winters in places like Boston, Boulder, etc. Not so much in Indiana... I have Southern Cal on my list right now but not ND for that reason.

Syracuse is basically a perfect fit for you if you can get in Newhouse. The broadcast sports journalism program at Syracuse is legendary (it is practically an ESPN feeder school), and Syracuse's Whitman School has a sports management major. Syracuse is somewhat (but not terribly) liberal, and has excellent D-1 athletics.

If the OP doesn't like super-cold, he'd probably hate Syracuse. It can get almost as cold as the midwest.
