Good Food, Good Conversation

Where are some of your favorite places to eat around campus? There are so many restaurants/fast food eateries around and I might one day be able to say I've tried most of them, but for now I usually just grab something from Durant Food Court. What are some of the hidden gems in Berkeley?

...I apologize for this being almost non-academically related. How about we just say... good food = happy mood to study! :D

P.S. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

my friend took me to cheeseboard in the gourmet ghetto and its soo good!

correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no cheeseboard in the gourmet ghetto.

Cheeseboard is far down west and gourmet ghetto is on hearst with all the decent asian food?

I heard cheeseboard is really good though

JBeak, you are dead wrong. That food on Hearst near the intersection with Euclid is just the Hearst Food court. Gourmet Ghetto is pretty much anything on Shattuck Avenue north of Hearst and south of Rose

are we really calling it the durant food court now :(

Durant Food Court is Asian Ghetto on southside. Hearst Food Court does not have nickname

ah kay
didn’t know

Hearst Food Court should get a nice nickname. It’s food, imo, is better than the Asian ghetto

I like the food on Euclid. Pretty much a regular of Northside cafe, le vals, urban turbann, and the (better) northside La burrita :)

Definitely Lotus…great chinese food and bobas.

La Burrita

Thai Basil

I call it the ‘North Asian Ghetto’. Cheeseboard is actually on Shattuck ave near the northside Safeway. It is a very far location if you live on the southside. They only serve vegetarian pizzas, which is fine for me, but will definitely turn some people off.

Personally, I enjoy Thai Noodle near BART station. Tasty food, lots of quantity, low price, just what you need as a college student lol…

Oh I think I went to cheeseboard with someone. I think they make it fresh or something like that or there’s somethin special about it. Yeah i didn’t like how it was veg either.

THANKS EVERYONE! I’ll definitely try Cheeseboard and these other places on northside. I’ve always had this lowkey preference to northside and the busy Shattuck area rather than southside… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again!!

Between people in my fraternity (consisting of several people with all their classes in the northside), we came up with a system:

Food court at north side is “North ghetto”

Durant Food Court is “South/asian ghetto”

As for gourmet ghetto – that unambiguously means the area around Cheeseboard. I live in that area and there’s tons of great options in the gourmet ghetto. They’re significantly classier than most places you find in the south side, cost approximately the same (with a few ultra-expensive selections, if you choose), and the food is just so much better. Main tradeoff is that it’s a 15min walk from the center of campus vs a 10min one.

Also, don’t forget the Claremont area!

I live right in the Gourmet Ghetto and yes it means the area around cheeseboard on shattuck and on the periphery. Cheeseboard is amazing, they serve one type of pizza everyday–it is absolutely amazing. It is the best pizza you will every try.

There is nothing else really in that area that I feel is worth mentioning.

Just Googled Claremont area, most definitely will check that out.

Okay, I am SUPER excited to try Cheeseboard now! I shall go there for my first meal when I get back from break.

Thanks everyone! :D

What frat are u in?

Oh as flutterfly mentioned, northside Cafe is definitely good stuff especially for lunch.

Never tried urban turban thoguh. I’ll definitely give it a shot.

Great China on west side is good too if ur looking for legit azn food. It’s not cheap though

Thanks again :] I’ve never been to Northside Cafe or the north side food court yet, and I’m excited to check it out! Great China sounds good, too.

How about buffalo wings? Does anyone know a place that makes good buffalo wings? I like the ones from Crossroads during Late Night, but I’d to eat some during the day for lunch…

What exactly is considered to be the Hearst Food Court?

Is it just Northside Cafe, Top Dog, La Burrita, Bongo Burger, etc? Or is it something else I haven’t found?

after 4 semesters and summers, none of these places are appealing.
