Ik I already posted something similar to this but I want the focus on this one to just be freshman year so here we go
English 1 Honors
Algebra 2 Honors
Chemistry Honors
AP World History
An academy elective
Spanish 1
P.E
AP Human Geography or should I take something else?
Ask how APHG is at your school. Ask students, NOT TEACHERS. Students will describe the class the way you’ll experience it. At my school, you practically self-study the core material, with some examples given in the class.
That’s a pretty strong schedule. I would just make sure that you are good at history if you decide to take on two history classes. If you had to take two at a time though those two are perfect because they sometimes cover the same material! If you are interested in history and can handle two AP classes as a freshman that’s great! And the rest of your schedule looks pretty good too!
Two APs as a freshman without any prior experience with APs? Sounds like a bad idea, but really depends on your school. The rest of your schedule looks okay, but again really depends on your school.
I agree with @awesomepolyglot, you really need to ask other students at your school about the difficulty of your course load.
APHG is supposedly really easy, so don’t worry much about it. Now, APWH is a totally different story. It is more rigorous and the 5 rate was 6.4% in the 2015 exam session. Just think about it. The class could be easy at your school, but you have to strive to get a passing score.
English 1 Honors => good
Algebra 2 Honors => good
Chemistry Honors => good
AP World History =>*
An academy elective => what is this?
Spanish 1 => good but 1 Honors would be better since it looks like you want a challenging program
P.E
AP Human Geography => yes, it’s a great “gateway to AP” course for advanced freshmen.
: As a freshman, you’re setting yourself up for failure. First, you’ll be in English 1 and Spanish 1, indicating your linguistic skills aren’t at the level needed for such a reading/writing intensive class. Second, you’d be a freshman taking a college-level class and covering several thousands years of history. Of all the classes a freshman can take, this is probably one of the worst picks, along with the “sequential” classes. Third, you’d be taking AP HG, so you wouldn’t need to take this class at all. If you want another history class that would be slightly less difficult (but still very challenging) you could pick art history. It’d be *very hard but at least you wouldn’t be setting yourself up for failure.
The only exception to this is if your high school has modified the AP WH curriculum in order to accomodate freshmen, as an alternative to Freshman World History Honors. However, typically, in that set up, you’d need Freshman World History Honors before you could take APWH.
No, not really.
The only situation I know is in New York State where freshmen take pre-Ap world history, then take APWH sophomore year and Apush junior year, as the most demanding social science sequence that also meets Regents and state requirements.
I agree with MYOS, take AP human geography freshman year and then APWH next year, then you can take APUS or APEuro, AP gov or AP Econ junior and senior year.
You are already accelerated in science and math.
If you take Honors Precalc next year, will you take AP Calc AB and BC junior and senior year, or what does your school offer for advanced math students?
@coolboy321456 @MYOS1634 already gave you several reasons not to take AP WH. If you decide to take both AP WH and AP HuG next year, that’s your prerogative, but be warned that it will probably be very difficult for you to maintain a high GPA next year.
You keep asking the same question on this and other threads. And it’s been answered and you just keep asking again. Which makes me suspect you are not going to do too well if you take AP world. But you can certainly take it. Just be prepared for a very heavy workload. This is not middle school anymore. If you feel you don’t have time for a very heavy workload, choose the honors class or AP human geography instead.
At our school it is a sophomore level course, but the kids take honors world history as freshmen, so they have a leg up. Even so, the workload is one of the highest in the school and a real wake-up call for most of the students. My younger daughter isn’t a very fast reader, and she probably spends 10+ hours per week on it. And it is taught in a slacker way at our school because the kids are not even required to write papers, just those 5 paragraph essays, so it could be far more work. Even with the prior year of world history, and lack of papers which allows the kids to focus more directly on test prep, I think only about 20% of our kids score a 5.
No one here can tell you much more. You can learn more by talking to students in your own school, who can tell you how demanding the class is, whether it’s common for freshmen like you to take, and what kind of AP scores your school gets on the exam.
I wouldn’t take APWH as a freshman, like everyone is saying, it’s typically a sophomore/Junior year class. If you really want to take APWH, don’t take APHUG, it’s not a very hard class, but it is extra work on top of world.
