good gift ideas & thank you notes for teachers?

I was just wondering if you guys had any good ideas for types of gifts to give your teachers/counselor in return for being so helpful & writing your college recommendations. I was thinking about maybe giving them caribou/starbucks coffee gift cards or baked good (except i cant bake :( ) but I kind of want it to be more thoughtful than that...I want to show them how much I truly appreciate them. Also, do you have any tips for writing good thank you notes?

What teacher doesn’t want a Caribou?

I made a thank-you video for my counselor recently and she really liked it. I sang a funny song that I rewrote the lyrics to, talked about why she is so important to me, and tried to show my sense of humor in my comments. Maybe you could do something similar (slideshow, music playlist CD, piece of artwork, etc.) utilizing your talents and personality.

P.S. This is more for teachers/counselors who know you really well and you’re on a personal level with.

As to your question about writing good thank-you notes, I would say, be specific. Mention specific things that they helped you with, a special discussion you enjoyed, etc. (not necessarily academic). This will make the note more personal.

What classes do the teachers who wrote your recommendations teach? Do you know what some of them are interested in?
