Hey,
I'm attending the university of texas right now with a bio major and a gpa of 3.8-3.9. I'm in a bunch of science groups, and will be doing research next semester, and know several professors that will write kick-butt reccommendations.

SO, what do you think my chances are? I just want to know if I should stay skeptical or keep some hope alive. I'm pretty nerdy and want to be around lots of other nerds, and U. of chicago just seems awesome.

Yeah, I'm shopping around, but my first choice is here (U of chicago). But, I may be kind of a long shot, so I'm maintaining a realistic viewpoint, and will apply to transfer several other places.

I really need out of Texas. I've lived here too long.

Anyways, can anybody help me out with the question about my chances as a transfer? I shall shower you with praise and good karma.

ha, thanks for the info; i'll burn some candels or something for you. Anybody else have some advice, or know any transfers and could snag their stats?

As far as the three things you listed, those are all good. There are just a couple things I'd recomend.

a) If Chicago is your top choice, show them that. They're not interested in transfers who just throw apps around to try and gain a notch of prestige.

b) Write a good essay. This is actually closely ties to the first thing because a good essay reflects a desire to go to Chicago.

If you follow my advise and your SAT is over 1300, I wouldn't worry about getting in.

There were people who transferred to UofC this year from places like Stanford to Berkeley to Riverside Community College...so I'm not quite sure what they're looking for, but since you maintained a pretty high GPA at the University of Texas, I'd think you have a decent chance of getting accepted. Best of luck to ya! :)
