Hi CC I seem to have a problem and am just wondering how I should handle it, I have a pretty good GPA ( 3.4 ) however I have only a 1030/1600 1530/2400 on the SAT :( What should be done and does this mean no college will accept me with such a poor SAT :(

One option is to look at score optional schools. [Optional List | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)

I’m guessing that you’re a rising junior, which means that you can still take the SAT in October and November before you apply to colleges. Just start loading up on prep books (I suggest Princeton Review and the College Board Blue Book) and study ALOT.

Also try taking the ACT, it might be a better alternative.

I am taking the ACT next Saturday and I plan to take the SAT one more time in the fall…just worried

what are u talking about?? 1530 isnt “bad”! u did better than me…

^^

Bad is relative. There’s a disproportionate amount of dudes on CC are shooting for ivies, and a 1500 is unacceptable for that caliber of school.

wait what??? does that mean i cant get in to the ivy’s?

You can always retake the exam and do better. Don’t be too freaked out about that, just study and do better next time. As for ivy’s, sorry but I wouldn’t count on it. You would really need to be the best of the best… Like near 2400 SAT with perfect GPA. Its hard to get into ivy’s, you can try but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

is there anything i can do to compensate for my sat score of 1490? :(

I am not going for a Ivy school so its ok haha and yall know its 1530 out of 2400 not out of 1600 right? I was under the impression that my score was bad, am I wrong?

The test is designed to have a Gaussian distribution with a median of 500 on each portion. In practice this does not work because the people who would be getting 200’s and 300’s often just don’t take the test. Theoretically, you are average.

@princetonprncess No, there’s nothing you can do to compensate a 1490/2400 and still get into a school like Princeton, other than retaking

ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Yeah try shooting for >2200, though that sounds like a big jump.

So I am confused…is my score bad if it is median?
