"Good grades" AP

Do grade expectations for classes change for different grade levels?

I am a Freshman and I am taking an AP course, which I currently have an 89 in for my first semester. I'm really trying to make it an "A", but I don't know whether it is possible for me to make a 96 in the second semester. I was so overwhelmed the first semester I didn't read much of the textbook and I even didn't do about two weeks of worth of work. Would an "A" be expected of someone taking an AP course their freshman year when applying upper-tier colleges?

How do colleges look at course load? This semester I have 6 honors classes and 1 AP, 5 of the honors courses are on the AB schedule, which means they are yearlong. Will it look bad if there are some grading periods I have a B in, but I have an "A" for the entire year?

A lot of colleges don’t crack down on freshman year as much, but rather view it as more of a “transition year”. I wouldn’t worry too much.
