How have your interviews been going, al0?

I think you have an amazing shot for schools in the 10-25 range, but the top 10 might be a stretch. I mean, you're schoolwork is spectacular but colleges see many kids like this and don't accept them.

Speaking of ECs...

I went to the high school for 9th-10th grades, then (since they offer no AP classes) went to a community college (technically still in high school). The high school had nothing in the category of math/science clubs, organizations, competitions, etc. It was impossible to even start a club, due to the budget cuts. I am, however, doing math and science ECs starting this year (11th grade) at college. I want to apply to MIT next year, but I am wondering how the lack of 9th-10th grade ECs looks (there was nothing I could do about it)? Also, I am going to Boston University this summer to do research...will this help?

Thanks a lot.

uhh, ohsofabulous is actually correct, once you spend any amount of time at a club, you are technically a member... how is that lying and/or making stuff up?

look here, i have a life other than school, and i dont feel that i always have to tell the freakin truth, i'll admit it, i cheat i make up volunteer hours, b/c i dont have the time to do all this work and i really dont care.
for one thing, i said that going to a meeting does make someone a member, b/c u took the time out to attend the meeting, so im tellin him 2 go to da next meeting he hears and den put dat on his application, aint nothin wrong wit dat
and stressing out, you need to shut your mouth b/c i can talk da way i wanna talk, so wat if i talk dis way, it aint no big deal, dis aint english class, so chill out and take your rude azz somewhere else, if u dont like me, den dont talk 2 me and dont reply 2 my posts. and i can talk about my class as much as we want 2 b/c we da class of 06, we run dis, we da greatest so u can go kiss my booty and quit hatin.

thank you BLH53, you are one of the coolest people i have met in a while....
keepin it real fa sho!

He's only "cool" because he happens to agree with you.

This validates cheating how? So...because you don't have time to actually do extracurriculars, lying about them is ok?

Wow.

And yet you parade about claiming '06 is the greatest class ever. With representatives like you, I find that laughable.

There is a difference between "making up" EC's and playing up the importance of activities that you weren't all that involved in. I think the latter is perfectly alright to do.

So under your logic, donating of a can of soup translates into serving soup at the local soup kitchen.

Right.

There's a difference between "selling" yourself and lying.

No, I think it's more like if you do an activity for just a short period of time, you can exaggerate the impact of this activity on you (rather than exaggerate how much time this activity took up.) What I mean is, make sure you make the activities you put down seem meaningful to you rather than just hours on paper.

Thank you, adummb... that's exactly what I meant. If you go to a club once to check it out, but for some other reason (lost of interest, too busy, etc...) you can't go anymore, weren't you technically in the club for a period of time? Thus, it's ok. Colleges don't check up on these things, snp2k. They just expect you to be honest.

seriously there is no harm just saying u were an officer of a diversity group. No harm no foul. Your EC’s right now are way to weak for a chance at any of those top schools.

Stressing Out omg. What is your problem. If you don’t agree with some of the comments then don’t look at this thread. You don’t have the authority to tell people What is up. FYI i keep it for real

The OP got into Caltech four years ago. ;)
