Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hotel - close to campus, decent atmosphere for parents attending preview in July?

[Gainesville Lodging](http://www.visitgainesville.com/lodging/)

We usually stay at the UF Hilton on 34th Street. It is near the southwest Rec center on the western edge of campus. It is probably the “nicest” full service hotel in the area.

Many of our friends swear by the Holiday Inn on the corner of 13th and University. I have also heard that the Paramount was “decent”.

For my daughter’s UF graduation next year (YES, NEXT YEAR), we are staying at the Homewood suites near I 75. The UF Hilton does major price gouging for graduation weekend ($345 a nite per room with a 2 nite minimum stay and a 45 day cancellation policy). The Homewood Suites is costing us $259/nite for a 2 bedroom/2 bath suite WITH complementary hot breakfast! If you don’t mind an extra 5 minutes in the car, I recommend homewood suites.

As you will see as you peruse the above website, there are MANY more affordable options depending on your budget and needs.

We’ve stayed at the Homewood suites a couple of times. In fact, we’ll be there for D’s preview, as that way she can have the fold-out couch for the first night she’ll be there with us before she has to stay on campus during preview. For parent’s weekend and move-in to apartment weekend, we’ll be staying at the Hilton Seiclan mentioned near 34th street. It’s very close to her apartment.

The Hilton sent us a post card for 10% off for preview, guess they don’t do that now. We stay there often, too. We also stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. They have hilton rewards card which gives you a free breakfast at either of the hotels. We use that a lot.

My parents always stay at the Homewood Suites.

Red Roof Inn (right off 75)

The Cabot Lodge which is right off I-75 @ Archer has a special parents’ preview rate of $ 81.95 per night. You just need to tell them when you book it that you are attending preview. I believe this includes a continental breakfast (not positive about that, when you call them check).

2 weeks ago we booked the Country Inn and Suites for Preview in July. 2 nights for a 1-bedroom suite (2 Q. Beds + sleeper-sofa) w/breakfast: $305.98 total.

For Family weekend we booked the Marriott Springhill Suites. 2 nights for 2 Double Beds + sleeper-sofa w/breakfast: $225.05 total. Grandma is coming so that is with a senior discount.

We have never stayed in these, but TripAdvisor gave good reviews.

Country Inn (just across the interstate) was pretty reasonably priced.

When my son was at UF, my favorite was the UF Hilton, but we sometimes stayed at the hotel inside the Reitz Union. There aren’t very many rooms and you have to book far in advance for big weekends, but the location can’t be beat! Parking was right there in the garage and you could walk to anyplace on campus. Oh yeah, the free continental breakfast included Krispy Kreme doughnuts
[Reitz Union Hotel](Hotel | union.ufl.edu)

We stayed in the Reitz during preview. It was great being right on campus and didn’t have to worry about parking.

for preview def stay at reitz b/c everything that goes on in preview is pretty much based at the reitz union…(i just went to preview, so i know)

We’ve stayed at the UF Hilton and the Paramount Plaza and got them on Priceline. If there are no big conferences at either hotel going on, you get them for $40 or less before the taxes/fees. Both are pretty convenient. I just snagged 2 nights at the Paramount for when D moves in before Summer B for $34 a night and after all the Priceline fees and taxes it’s $83 total for two nights.

We stayed at the Reitz Union Hotel for preview. It is on the 5th & 6th floors & was close to everything. Plus it had the parking right there. It was $99 a night to stay there. Preview was 12 hours the first day and the second day was not as long for the parents.

I’d recommend the Reitz Union hotel, you will be close to the activities and will have great parking. The rates are slightly below those at the Hilton.
