hello, can anyone suggest a reliable hotel to use while visiting Loyola? I dont mind if its 30 mins away, as long as it's clean, preferably newer and reasonably priced.
I dont know the area well.

You have quite a few choices depending on your preferences. My DS is a rising senior at Loyola and I have been to the area quite a few times for both business and pleasure.
I generally stay in Marriott properties, but Hilton and the other chains all have nice properties in the area. If you plan on spending some time in Baltimore, the Inner Harbor will offer a lot more to see and do especially for first timers. The Fairfield Inn (completely renovated about 2-3 years ago) and Spring Hill Suites (renovated about 4 years ago) are about $159 per night plus parking. If you want a quick overnight, the hotels in Hunt Valley (about 15 mins north) are more reasonable with a Marriott, Courtyard, and Residence Inn. You often can get these for a little over $100 and free parking. Also the Towne Place at BWI airport is newer (about 3 years old) and is the lowest priced Marriott property near the airport (about 30 min drive) with free parking. Towson has a Marriott which is very close (about 8 mins) from campus. Whitemarsh is another area (about 15 mins away) with several properties.
Rates can get pricey during the visitor season, so it will be harder to find good prices at this time.
Loyola has been a terrific choice for my DS. Good luck with your visit.

I live in the area, and know many students who have gone/go there now. Found this from the web-site:[Area Hotels \ Undergraduate Studies \ Loyola University Maryland](Page Not Found - Loyola University Maryland)

I think any of these are a good choice. The farthest I would stay is Towson, or maybe BWI area if you are flying in. White Marsh or Hunt Valley might be too far with lots of traffic to deal with, imo. Good Luck.

We usually stay in Linthicum Heights, out by BWI airport. There are hotels in every price range, and most don’t charge extra for parking. Being near an airport, the hotels stay pretty busy, so there are always people around and we’ve felt safe, even when it was just myself and DD. We’ve typically stayed at the Wingate. I’d love to stay closer, but with what those dorms like palaces cost, I can’t afford $150+/night for hotels as well! The drive isn’t bad, although it takes you through the city some.

The Inn at Hendersons Wharf is a lovely place to stay. I would also suggest Inner Harbor hotels with many wonderful restaurants close by.

Thx everyone! So, the airport area is ok? The prices seem good there but I was wondering if the area is pleasant.

It sure would be prettier to stay in Inner Harbor, but if you’re just looking for a reasonably priced decent area to stay, the airport is fine. It’s not beautiful - it’s a big stretch of hotels, restaurants, and strip malls. With so many hotels, it stays busy enough that we’ve always felt comfortable. We’re really only there to sleep, the rest of the time we’re at the school or we park somewhere to go into Inner Harbor or other parts of the city.

Thats exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you Inigo!

Another question now…does anyone know the usual agenda for parents/family weekend? Do I need to be down there for Friday night or can I just drive down early Sat am ?

We like the Sheraton in Towson - and shop it in hotwired.com - you can get the room for about $105/night. It is 10 minutes from Loyola and adjacent to a great Mall with a number of good restaurants such as PF Changs and Cheesecake Factory.
