Good hotels to stay at near USC?

I'm visiting soon and we're staying overnight. Suggestions for good hotels that are nearby? Thanks!

*Or hotels near UCLA because we are going to check out LA in general, Westwood, etc. So any good hotels near either of these schools would be great!

You can’t beat the Radisson for convenience - right across the street. I like the Omni downtown - nice ambiance and a good neighborhood. The Westin Bonaventure downtown can be a great bargain if you like Priceline; the rooms are smallish, but it’s not a bad place.

I hope you’re not visiting during parents weekend, because they’ll all be booked!

I stayed at the W Hotel on Hilgard Avenue, just around the corner from UCLA in Westwood. It was a really nice hotel in a great area…excellent for exploring UCLA and LA in general. It was a bit of a drive to USC though, although perfectly manageable!

Thanks, guys! I decided to stay at the Radisson across the street. Hopefully it’ll be good! :)

Also, @ FauxNom, luckily I’m visiting a few days before Parents Weekend. :D

4 star hotel on Priceline, downtown LA, $70. - great chance for the Westin Bonaventure.
Keep in mind, extra charges are expensive there (parking, $27.00 for breakfast buffet).
3.5 star hotel on Priceline, downtown LA, around $65. - great chance for either the Marriott downtown or the Kyoto Grand near USC.
I love the Century Plaza hotel in Century City. Beverly Hills Hilton has a good internet special now. If you go to Hotwire, you should be able to get a hotel for $125-135 a night for Century City or Westwood, 4 star hotel and is worth the bid if that price is ok for you.

Eiffel- I stayed at the Radisson once and just be prepared. You can’t beat the convenience but it is very noisy and a little run down. You can search here on the boards for more opinions about that and for other hotel recommendations as this topic has come up often. Good luck!

If you stay at the Radisson near USC, then consider another hotel closer to UCLA if you are visiting UCLA.

UCLA Guest House is on campus, about $140/night. It’s fairly small and tends to book up. S & H stayed there during their UCLA visit and drove to tour USC the next day. We’ve since stayed at the Radisson next to USC for orientation (which was in the section they use during the school year for student housing – pretty bare bones). We talked to other parents with a room on the Figueroa St. side who said the traffic noise was bad. At either place the nice thing is being right on campus and not having to hassle with traffic, parking, etc.

That being said, S has friends at UCLA and has visited there several times. It’s not really that far, but traffic is usually a bear on the 405.

Thanks, guys! I’m actually not visiting UCLA this time (already visited during summer. Already visited USC too, but my love for USC has drawn me back for a second visit and an official tour this time! ;)) But I did want to check out Westwood, Beverly Hills, and the “nicer” parts of LA. However, we already booked our night in the Radisson so we’ll just have to drive out to the other parts of LA and hopefully it won’t take long. It’ll definitely give me a good picture of what it would be like for me to go to USC and how long it would take to get to certain parts of LA. You guys say it doesn’t take too long though, right? My directions said it would take about 20 minutes to get to Westwood, so hopefully traffic is fine. :)

if u wanna be a real trojan stay at the Ritz Carlton penthouse

Except for Sunday morning, traffic is terrible and will take more than 20 minutes to get to Westwood from USC. If you want to stay at the Radisson for the convenience of being walking distance to campus, that is fine. Make sure you rent a car.

Also, wanted to mention that I am surprised that one of the posters was able to rent a room at the UCLA guest house unless the poster was a UCLA alumni. Maybe they changed the rules to allow UCLA visitors?

It was us who booked UCLA Guesthouse. Just need to show you have business at UCLA, so the tour must have counted because we had no other affiliation.
