Good HS Science Classes for Ecology Major?

Most specifically (and hopefully) at UCSC. I’m only a sophomore, but so far I’ve completed biology and am currently in chemistry. Next year I plan on taking marine ecology and AP environmental science. Would this be enough as far as sciences go? I’ve heard that I should also take physics, but that subject doesn’t quite interest me so is it really very important that I take it or can I get away with not doing so and fill that spot in my schedule with anatomy and physiology instead?

If your school offers AP Chemistry or AP Biology, I highly suggest taking those, and even though physics is not directly relating to environmental science, it is still an important class to take. You don’t have to take AP Physics, but you should take a physics class.

If you really do want to major in ecology, you should defiantly take AP Environmental Science and AP Chemistry. You should also take AP Biology if possible. Like @raventhemage said, if you want to go to STEM or environmental related positions, colleges like to see you take Physics, and it does not have to be an AP or Honors course as long as the other sciences are Honors or AP. It is optional, however, it is recommended.

Have a good day and good luck!

I concur that you should also take a Physics class, AP environmental and either AP Bio or Chem. As stated above, it does not have to AP Physics, but having a background in Physics will make your college Physics classes easier. UCSC has 3 quarters of Physics courses required for the Ecology major and I am sure most colleges will also.
