good idea for essay???

i have to write about a failure in life. i was going to write about a cooking failure when i was nine. im really good at writing, i just need to know if this sounds like something interesting....

Your choice of topic doesn’t sound like a particularly good choice. But perhaps you went from a failed cook to a 4-star cook Then perhaps yes.

I would be inclined to pick a much more recent “failure” – perhaps in the past year or so, one from which you’ve learned and grown in ways that relate to your eventual college career.

If you have a great idea about a cooking failure, I think it’s fine as long as it’s well written and shows something about who you are and how you think. Depending on the essay’s length, you can include the lessons that you learned and how these lessons can be extrapolated/ applied to other areas of your life.

I disagree with fogcity. I think this could be a much more interesting essay than the typical “how I learned from failure” topic, if you are as good a writer as you say. In other words, if you can show something about yourself through this topic, I think it’s much better than a formulaic, “I failed but I learned X, Y, and Z, and they will make me stronger in college.”
