Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I am planning to apply after my sophomore year was fully completed that way I would have time to maximize my GPA. It also allows me to complete a 6-month internship i have applied for. Is this wise? Do admissions officers not want students who have been on an almost twelve month long hiatus from their educations? If I have not been clear on my plans, I plan to apply in November 2010 for the fall 2011 school year leaving me time to complete my internship.

Comments? Opinions? I know people generally apply in the middle of their sophomore year, but I was wondering if this was a viable option?

I would apply for Fall 2010, and trying doing an internship while going to school, as many UCLA students do this.

I heard once you’ve been rejected, there is little chance to gain admission by reapplying. So i wanted to wait for the best chance…

Well if you are thinking about taking a year off to do this internship to boost your EC’s then dont. Extra curricular activities play a part in your admission but they will not make/break you… If you are not qualified and you have an internship you still wont get in, and if you are qualified then you will be able to get in. Get your GPA as high as you can and finish IGETC and Pre Reqs for your majors. What is your major/gpa?

3.3 Poli Sci, I can however get it up to 3.7 by Spring 2010, but by then it wont matter if I apply this november. Thats why i wanted to wait until spring grades were put on my trans, take that internship, and apply later. As for IGETC, i’m currently attending UCI.

Why dont you just apply, if you dont get in, i believe you can just apply the next year with nothing against you for being rejected the first time. ( Call UCLA and make sure)

Thanks!

I’ll do that.
