I have participated in some republican campaigns and such....should i even mention this on my application...will a mainstay liberal panel look at this with disgust? just wondering because its not really one of my strong extracurriculars, I've participated in a lot of republican stuff, but i dont plan on pursuing a political major...should i mention my conservitive activities in my list of ecs?

it shouldn't matter too much. they are always looking for diversity anyhow

mention them as activities and ECs if you think it will look good as a substansial EC, but don't focus on them or talk about it really in your essay.

umm all depends where u r applying .... i am a democrat and i worked on over 10 campaigns as a volunteer and paid staffer..... i think u and me r in the same boat... be safe and just write major political party.... cant go wrong that way

no offense, but a democrat could read it, unless ur applying in the south...and they'll read it with disgust...a lot of ppl hate bush now...and i'm a democrat and so r my friends, so i'm kinda doing u a favor

I agree that adcoms want debate and dialogue in each class that is lucid, so they may admit a smattering of hard core supporters of major parties for that reason. They need good editorial writers...got a sample that you wrote? I think rather than focusing on Republican work, state the campaign you supported but in terms of skills used and acquired. Polling work, voter registration, contact with the media. Break it down as skills and show the volunteer civic spirit aspects of your effort rather than simply stating party affiliation.
I was very pleased in October to see well developed campus "rags" at Vanderbilt Undergrad supporting each side, and the mock election split in two groups of 50% for each candidate. In the 80s the undergrad school voted totally for Reagan and now the school split into camps and debated the issues. This is progress, and is reflected in campus papers and in a higher standard of discourse and exchange of ideas in the classroom.

Chanski, adcoms dont give a rat's ass if you are republican or democrat. What matters is how major your contribution was for the party. How did your camaign make a difference? Dont make a big deal about being Republican, make a big deal of how important you were in their campaigning. Did you contribute to a major republican voter turnout? Think about stuff like that.

Trust me as I am also a hardcore campaigner, and I talked with adcoms about this before.

most of my app has to do with science and swimming, i feel like mentioning politics doesn't really fit into my app, i feel like it takes the focus away from my mainstay ecs?? i dunno

Once you learn how to spell, maybe your affiliation will reflect better on the Republican Party.

Woah man, he can spell, he just doesn't capitalize. Get over it.
