Good idea to talk about school in essay?

Hey. I'm writing my essay, and have hit a tiny little brick wall. Should I mention my intended major in it or not? My essay runs along the lines of an experience I had where I met someone who had survived the holocaust. I was thinking of saying that I had intended to major in international relations, politics, and affairs in college, and hearing his stories showed me how important these fields really are. Should I include that, or just scrap it entirely? It would be the only mention of college in my essay.
Thanks

I think its a great idea to include.
Your experiences (and others) have inspired what you want to do in your future!
Good luck :)

thanks for the reply. As for the essay itself, is 500 words a hard cap? Mine currently is 600 and there won’t be a lot I’ll want to delete. Is going over 500 a bad idea?
