I am looking at sending in supplementary materials to my schools. Is it a good idea to include a newspaper article. I have a nice color copy that fits on a single letter size sheet. The article highlights my receipt of a national award for community service(from July 08). I'm also including 2 supplementary letters of recommendation and a resume. Is the article a good idea or is it too much?

It really depends on the school. A lot of schools prefer less (less is better). I would say the two additions letters of recommendation are not needed unless the college did not require any previously.

Sounds very appropriate to send, an article on a national community service award is significant.

This is a good example of something I could see getting a deferred candidate or one on the border in.

Two additional letters sounds too much. Just one additional one would suffice. Also the newspaper article sounds like a good idea.

depends on school. but remember that less is more.
