Okay, some of you have seen my other (general) thread but the only missing piece is a few liberal arts colleges. Preferably ones with over 2,000 in total students and not-too-expensive.

I am an international student and I am not looking to get into Swarth or Pomona.

Academics should be top tier but not necessarily top20 in the nation.

Any suggestions?

I've been thinking about Hillsdale College:

Maybe evergreen state college in olympia, wa? Check out the colleges that change lives website. [Colleges That Change Lives](http://www.CTCL.com)

I answered your post on another thread but forgot to mention…Check out Kiplinger’s Best Value Colleges as well as Princeton’s Best Value list of the top 100 colleges 50 private 50 public. These lists profile some of the best colleges in terms of value and academics. There are plenty of great colleges to choose from.

SUNY Geneseo, NY public LAC made both lists. The international application deadline is 6/1 so this is always an option.

Happymom, I can’t believe you recommended the University of Minnesota-Morris. That was going to be my suggestion as well. My wife and I both attended there and we loved it. It is a bit smaller than 2000 students, and the town is small, but the academics are good and the price is right. The tuition is also the same for in-state as for out-of-state students. It is regarded much more highly than Bemidji State.

Thanks a lot for the comments and suggestions guys and gals!

I’ve already added Hanover, Truman and St. Mary’s to my list. I do have the UMinn but the Twin Cities variant. Morris is, at least by the USNEWS ranking, a T3 school. A lot of people say that rankings doesn’t matter other’s say that it matters at least up to a point (under the top100 schools doesn’t, but go over that and it’ll be treated differently).

Total costs under 30,000 dollars per year. Or a LAC that has extremely generous international aid that would put me down under that eventually. And this added with the fact that I am not looking for a Swarthmore-esque LAC.

Total cost: $20,806 (perhaps more than that if you’re international)
Freshman class size: 1,387
SAT range*: 1250-1440
ACT range: 27-32
Percentage of applicants admitted: 34%
Student-to-faculty ratio: 12 to 1
Application deadline: Jan. 1
Early admission deadline: Nov. 1

The annual cost of attendance at UM Morris will be about $20,000 for an out of state student. The annual cost of attendance at the University of Minnesota will be about $30,000 for an out of state student.

from a two year old old thread - a good list of schools although the prices are higher now:

I suggest Dickinson College-they give a lot of financial aids to int’l students. You can ask for it as much as you want and once you got accept , they will meet your fully need. (ex. if you ask for $25,000 total cost, once you are accept, you only need to pay 25,000). But they will not accept you if they can’t fully meet your need so be careful not to ask too much.

It’s LAC in rural area in PA. It rains a lot though so I dunno if you would consider it good weather.

jellyya, that was an awesome tip, and it’s in a bit of a rush now. But if you, or anyone else, got a similar school like Dickinson, please tell me ;)

A lot of state schools are very expensive for out-of-staters. But I think the New York state schools (I’ve heard good things about Binghamton and Geneseo in particular) are more reasonable–under $30,000.

Some smaller Catholic colleges will throw a ton of scholarship money at you if you’re a good student.
