I am looking for good schools in california (generally accept act scores of 26-32) that are very liberal, hippie schools and would fit students that are quirky, artsy, hippie, vegetarian, etc.

UC Santa Cruz
UC Berkeley
Pitzer

Or venture one state north for Lewis & Clark and Reed, both in Portland.

Get out of California, dude.
Warren Wilson College (North Carolina) is where it’s happening.

Are you in-state?

The town of Davis has a liberal hippie quirky artsy vibe, more so than the student body at UC Davis.

Cal State Humboldt is another possibility. The town of Arcata is said to be something of a hippie haven.

Go a bit more north to Reed?

I’ll second Pitzer (though it’s getting tougher and tougher to get into) and Lewis & Clark in Portland where my daughter is senior. Great school with a balanced blend of all types but many hippie, quirky types. In addition to Pitzer in CA: SF State, Humboldt State, possibly Chico State, UC Santa Cruz, and of course UC Berkeley

Further north—the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
