Hello, I am a Senior and am applying to scholarships. I however am undocumented, and an issue I have is that most scholarships require citizenship or a legal status. Are there any applications for scholarships that don’t require legal status and have good money. Since I also don’t qualify for FAFSA federal aid, I can’t count on the government either for paying for college, so I really need to scholarships. Thank you !
Simply put…no.
In some states, you would have instate status if you graduated from a HS in that state. Tuition at a community college at the instate rate is likely your best bet.
Too late for Questbridge - the deadline was in September, did you apply?
There’s only 1 that I know of – the Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship, which is up to $40,000 per year for undergrad. The deadline is very soon. Your stats are probably high enough to be in contention.
Ask your high school counselor. If there is a fair size community of undocumented students, they may know of local scholarships or companies that might help. Years ago, before Colorado started granting instate status to undocumented students, there were a number of counselors who knew how to get the students instate rates in New Mexico.
Your choices might be limited, but focus on what is possible for you.
@johonmilla There is a hispanic forum here on CC which has more information for you. I posted some recent scholarship info there for undocumented students. Some private colleges have special scholarships for undocumented students. Unfortunately there is not one list. You simply have to do the research and ask each college. My undocumented students have been able to get those scholarships from those colleges.
