Just wanted to wish everyone traveling to Tuscaloosa for their CBHP & UFE interviews the best of luck. Looking forward to hearing about your weekend at the Capstone.

Yes!!!

Keep in mind…

Everyone you meet can have input into final selection (secretaries, staff, current students, etc) so be polite, nice, and patient with everyone.

Be cheerful, interested, and not gossipy. LOL

Good Luck everyone - will be back here anxiously awaiting news on how it went :)

Good luck everyone and welcome to the Capstone. I hope you enjoy the weekend. Roll Tide!

Just in case you hadn’t thought of this…

If you can, bring a laptop computer with you. You find that comes in handy in your hotel room over the weekend. You won’t need it while walking around, but you may want it while in your hotel room.

fingers crossed for all of you!! good luck

mom2…i took your advice and am currently posting from the Hotel Capstone
Weather is lovely(compared to PA!) and everyone’s been great so far…
I’ll keep everyone updated!!!

Yea! You’re there! Yes, keep us posted. :)

Have a great time!!!

:)

Thanks for checking in R6L! Glad all is going well!

I’m in the airport to head home and I have time to kill
The whole weekend was AMAZING. Everyone was super nice.
On Friday night we had a little reception with appetizers. Dr. Witt, Wellon, and Dr. Morgan were there and it was super cool
Then, we went to dinner in Smith hall which has the bones of a WHALE hanging above your head. Dinner was really yummy and everyone got to sit with a few fellows and talk to them.

Saturday was LONG
We got up, had breakfast at the hotel, then got our escorts for the day. You just went from appointment to appointment(including a 30 min interview).
At 6:30 we headed to dinner at a place with dueling pianos. Even though there were only like 15 of us left(those with sunday flights plus CBHP kids), we had a ball. Honors college paid for dinner too which was super sweet

In all, great visit

Rocket, So glad you had a great time. D2 told us she had a great time too and BTW was one of the 15 at Brown’s Corner. She said the Fellows staff went out of their way to put on a good show–even offering a tour of the stadium which was more interesting than D2 thought it was going to be. Besides the professors, D2 was also impressed with the involvement of the current Fellows students. It seemed to her that there was almost a one-to-one ratio of current to prospective members. She said the Fellow assigned to her and one other girl to assist them with their appointments was very nice and helpful. She sensed none of the arrogance/cockiness that one sometimes finds with competitive entry organizations. These students, D2 said, really seemed to care about the candidates and were proud of their program. After all, isn’t that the best measure of a program’s effectiveness?

Thanks again to all on here like Mom2 and the others who offered helpful advice. D2 said it really made her feel more confident knowing ahead of time what to expect. It will be interesting to see how the CBHP experience compares. I just hope D2 can wind down from feeling so special when she comes back home:)

Rocket…

Glad to had a great trip. Have a safe trip home! Sounds like everything went super well. :)

Fingers crossed for all the CC kids doing interviews this weekend! :)

BTW…did they say how many would get picked?

It was a fabulous weekend! Everything was very well run and organized.

The candidates and current fellows were all extremely impressive and seemed to be great, very genuine kids. It was definitely a positive, supportive atmosphere.

The kids schedule was jam packed. I think they were too excited to realize they were on the go for 10 hours Saturday. We are driving back to Texas now (my excuse for typos) and I bet our d will sleep most of the day.
The parent portion was very informative. We had tine to visit with other parents, Fellows, Dr. Morgan, Dr. Sharpe and Wellon (who, btw is expecting twins in May).

D got the impression that the current Fellows have a big say in choosing the new class and have been part of the process all along. Dr. Morgan told the parents that they hope to have a class of about 25, but might extend invitations to as many as 45. She said they hope to announce decisions in 2-3 weeks.

Good luck to all!

Wow…good news about Wellon! Twins!!! Wow!

Yes, current UFE (and CBHers) get a “say” in who gets picked. Each finalist has a folder and everyone can write in comments. That’s why I stress that the finalists be pleasant to EVERYONE. :)

They also made a point that there weren’t a number of spots to fill. They would take however many kids would fit well into the program

EVERYONE was soooo talented…it was overwhelming

Glad to hear that you made it home safely!!!

:)
