hey i love wash u-st.louis even though i never visited. But does wash u-st.louis offer journalism and computer science as a double major? do they allow students to take two different major in different colleges?
and is wash.u score choice for sat? and how many sat 2 do i have to take?
thanks

you can do computer science as a double major with any other major - even if it’s in a different school. I’m not sure we have a journalism major, though, but the English department is really good and almost certainly has classes that would get you prepared if a career in journalism is what you’re after.

This might have some good reading: http://admissions.wustl.edu/About/Academics/programs/Pages/Journalism.aspx

There is no journalism department, like Don said. If you wanted to do Computer Science, you could be in the engineering school pursuing the CS degree, or in another school pursuing CS as a second major (CS is one of the few engineering disciples that has a second major program).

You can double major in anything pretty much.

so what is your advice?should I apply there? how is the social life and dorms?

You should definitely apply. Its a fantastic school. Even though WashU doesn’t have a journalism department per se (well not to my knowledge), the English department at WashU can definitely help you with journalism. And double majoring is in fact very easy at WashU. WashU is very flexible in regard to taking classes in different schools. And the social life is pretty good; there are tons of clubs you can join and many sports you can play(competitive or just for fun). And the general consensus about WashU is that the students are very hardworking, but they still find time to have fun. It a “work hard, play hard” mentality. And the dorms are probably some of the best you will ever find at a college. There are traditional and modern dorms, with the modern being more high quality. But overall the dorms are excellent. You should definitely come visit the school, and be sure to request an interview if you do decide to apply. WashU likes applicants who show a lot of interest.

And WashU does do the SAT score choice and they do not require SAT 2 tests(but it is still recommended)

You don’t “need” to have a journalism major to be a writer for a newspaper, or blog, or… but if you’re totally determined to major in journalism, have you considered Northwestern?

yes, I am thinking of northwestern, I don’t have enough money to go to st.louis, I live in new york.
How are the food in wash.u? then if i want to do journalism what is my second major gonna be?

assumed you were interested in comp sci? but you could always double major in poli-sci, communication design, english, whatever interests you really. Oddly enough the University College (evening school) at WashU does have a major called “Communications and Journalism,” so you could definitely take classes there, but they’d show up on your undergrad record as electives probably.

Here’s another CC thread on this topic: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/277219-journalism-washu.html …One thing that was recommended there seems like a really good idea to me - Most of the editors at StudLife (our student newspaper) are english majors who are especially interested in journalism. If you want to find out what the experience at WashU would be like as someone with your interests, it would really be worth emailing one of their editors with any questions you might have. Their website is here: [Student Life | the independent newspaper of washington university in st. louis](http://www.studlife.com)

(and the food is amazing, imho…)

thanks I am def gonna apply here? how is the environment outside of campus-is it like crazy like new york?
how are the professor? and class sizes and the academic rigor?

The environment is definitely not like New York…the school is actually situated in the perfect area, you get a little bit of both the city and suburb environment if that makes any sense, and st. louis is a amazing city, not too big and not too small…for your other questions you should definitely check out this website [Washington University in St. Louis - Student Reviews and Rankings](Washington University in St. Louis - Niche), it extremely helped me
