i am a junior in hs an am trying to figure out what i might want to major in in college. I really want to go into a science related field but i am only decent in math. I was looking into environmental science, environmental engineering and bioengineering but i found that it is really difficult to find jobs with such majors. If anyone has any information or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

Since you mentioned environmental engineering, you might consider civil engineering. The math requirements will be similar. And often, those two disciplines are in the same department. Also CE will have better job prospects than EnvE.

I was thinking about civil engineering a while ago but i would really like to go into something involving science

That’s the rub. It becomes a circular argument. I like science but jobs are not as easy to find and pay significantly less so I should consider engineering but it doesn’t involve as much science so what do I do.

If you’re only decent in math, that will preclude many science and engineering fields. Almost all science and engineering fields will require math at least through calculus and possibly more. For some fields, you might need statistics, too. Required coursework in supporting sciences will require application of math, too.

Some fields you might consider that might not require as much math and also might have somewhat better employment prospects: food science, certain areas of geology, plant pathology, entomology. A geography major with a track in GIS might be a possibility, though some programs might require more math and computer science than you want to undertake.

This was very helpful thank you! Do you know anything about food science?

OP, usually a food science major will be offered at public land grant universities in their colleges of agriculture. The least expensive option will be the land grant university in your home state. Every state has one. I would recommend that you check out the requirements for food science majors at your state’s land grant university and any others that interest you and that you can afford. Math requirements for this degree usually include statistics and 1 or 2 semesters of calculus, depending on the particular school. General and organic chemistry and possibly, general physics would be required, too. For more information on this field see these websites:
