Up until a few hours ago, I had my mind dead set on Journalism. I was to gain a major in communications, and graduate onto, with a head full of optimism, the world of broadcast media. But 2 factors changed this decision.

For one, journalists are a dime a dozen, so getting actual solid work is quite competitive, and the pay is quite low.

And finally, I had another interest inside that wild head of mine, I love to study people. I stare at them when I can be sure they won't notice. I want to know what they are doing, why they are doing it, why they react the way they do in certain situations, etc. So I was to minor in sociology.

So I sat down today, with a brilliant man, my AP English Lit teacher, who has a knack for giving his students great advice on their futures (using what he's seen as their potential, whilst in class).

I asked him if I could somehow mesh the two interests together, and after a 2 second pause, he told me to look into marketing. I felt as though I saw the light. It's good pay, stable, and it will force me to utilize my writing skills, along with the ability (after much studying of their nature), to make people tick.

I may be only 17, quite young as some of you will probably point out, but I've been thinking a good 5-10 years into my future. I need a plan. I will not be one of those major switchers, 3 times over that you always hear about.

Now for the moment you've been begging for, the point. I'm not Ivy League material, I mean I fair pretty good, 3.88 GPA, AP/Honors classes, (haven't attempted the SAT yet though, 3 more weeks), and a few scattered ec's (kind of lacking here). Definitely by no means a college's worst nightmare.

All my college searching has revolved around the idea of journalism, but now that that has changed, I'm at ground zero. So far I've looked into University of Washington, Washington State University, and University of Oregon, all decent in the aforementioned major.

Can I be a successful marketer by attending these colleges, or should I glance upon a new horizon?

A thank you for sticking with my ranty post, and for helping me in this dilemma :)
