Hi! I am new to the board and have a quick ?. I am looking into colleges in the midwest area and I want to program computers so is a major in Computer Science the direction that I should go? What schools in the midwest states are good, to me the name of school is not an important issue just getting a good solid education at a reasonable price is. I dont really want to attend a big school a smaller more personalized campus is more what I am looking at. I currently live in South Dakota but my parents are looking at moving to Missouri so anything in the midwest area would be of interest to me. Thanks in advance for any help or information. Dan

Well, since you eliminated the usual suspects by virtue of size (UIUC, Wisconsin, etc.), I would look into places like Rose Hulman, Case Western or Milwaukee School of Engineering if you don't mind the tech-heavy focus. If your parents move to Missouri, then Mizzou-Rolla would be a nice option. These would all be good options for a CS major. I am not as familiar with CS programs at liberal arts colleges, outside of Carleton, which is excellent (albeit expensive and tough to get into).

If you have the grades, test scores, programing experience and EC's, Nebraska has their J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science and Management. UNL is about 21,000, and while I'm not really sure how many students they take, it is a pretty tight knit community within a larger school. I have several friends who are all pretty much doing whatever they wanted to do after graduation - law school, MBA programs, private sector.
