Here's my story. Live in CA, been accepted to a bunch of CSU's, one UC, and still waiting on 1 other private school. Applied to UMass Isenberg Sports Mgmt program and thought of this as one of my top pics as I want to eventually work in sports industry. Got my packet today and good news was accepted but bad news only as "undeclared" major and not admitted to the Sports Management program. Anyone know how the "undeclared" major at Umass works? Am I competing against everyone in the world to get into the Sports Management program or am I given some kind of preferential treatment? Do I need to actually apply for the program next year or what? I would probably roll the dice if I were a Mass. resident but I know I'm going to have to pay some out of state tuition (still haven't figured out all of the financial aid details yet) and I'm thinking it doesn't make sense to spend a year or two back there if there's not a high probability of getting in the program I want. Any comments would be appreciated.

Here is some information that I think is relevant to your situation:

My son was also accepted Undeclared during the EA round for Engineering. They are giving him a 2nd look during the RD round (with updated stats) but we still have not heard. If he does not get in to the engineering program he does not want to risk it (UMass is his 2nd choice school although the best option money wise)and will attend another school where he was all ready accepted into engineering. (his top choice school).

Good luck!

…I was admitted undeclared and all I had to do was email admissions, explain that I had decided that my major should be industrial engineering because of an internship and then my major was changed in 4 days. I think it’s because I had high stats all around for the school. But it was just one email. No back and forth or anything

ctcountess-Did you originally apply for industrial engineering and were admitted Undeclared or did you change to industrial engineering after not being admitted to your original choice? If that is the case, what was your original choice of major?

I applied undeclared because I didn’t know what I wanted and wanted the ability to transfer into whatever I wanted

I think it also might have also helped that I said I wanted to go join the engineering rap and as an undeclared student, I would not be able to.

Since you applied as an Undeclared, I’m assuming that after your email they must’ve looked at your stats and you must’ve been good enough to get into Eng. My son applied for Eng and got accepted as Undeclared so his stats aren’t quite up to the level for Eng school.
