I know UTD is in the heart of Dallas industries technologically, medically and financially. UTD is my top choice just because of the recognition with top companies in the Dallas area.

My question is does anyone know much about the Finance degree at UTD, the recruiting to companies, and maybe what GPA, EC's are required for a good entry level job?

Also what Minor would be most helpful! I'm considering either Accounting, Global Communication and Leadership or Statistics? Which one would help with getting into corporate finance?

Thanks.

I graduated last year; at that time, the difference between a finance degree and an accounting degree was four classes. Instead of getting a minor or double major, just get two degrees…one in finance and one in accounting. There’s so much overlap and it would probably look awfully impressive. Check the Career Center for opportunities and keep your GPA up.

Typically, anything over 3.0 with lots of extracurriculars or some job experience helps tremedously. The less charismatic and well spoken a person is, the higher their GPA needs to be in order to compensate in an interview. Some companies won’t look at someone unless they have a 3.5 GPA or higher. Others, have more relaxed standards and tend to look for more balanced candidates.

Most important path to a promising career: work hard, find ways to become a leader in an organization (preferrably academic) and constantly tweak your resume.

i’ve seen a few people land full time jobs at the big 4 accounting firms
