Good options for Field Biology/Ecology?

Another voice of support for Carleton. The arboretum, as spdf points out, is attached to campus and serves as a phenomenal resource to Environmental Science, Geology and Biology majors. The school, despite its LAC size, turns out more PhDs in Geology than any college or university in the nation. Many grads are scattered across the country at other LAC/uni’s, now on faculty/running geo/environmental sci depts.

Interestingly, Philip Camill at Bowdoin was himself recruited from Carleton ~ 4-5 years ago to take over as their Director of Environmental Science.

Or you could just skip ahead to the top schools.

My daughter was looking at schools with good research dollars invested in undergraduates. She did research during high school and her primary criteria was that the university that she attend have at least three or four researchers with whom she was interested in working. One thing that helped broaden our list of schools was the list at www.mup.asu.edu/research2011.pdf, for what it’s worth. Im not a hugh fan of rankings etc, but this report made me look at some schools with really good endowments and parse out what we were looking for in a school.
