<p>I'm currently concentrating in Consumer Econ. and Finance in ACES and had a bit of a difficult decision to make within the last few months.</p>
<p>First, I really wanted to get into the Business school but figured my current 3.38 GPA after 3 semesters wasn't strong enough and couple that with no real clubs(yea, I was gonna get into the American Marketing Association but it costs too much and I thought that was pretty much bullcrap). I really wanted to be involved in Marketing but it's just not possible. </p>
<p>So then I realized, Advertising, which is in the College of Communications would probably be the 2nd best alternative to Marketing and I think it's something I really want to pursue.</p>
<p>What's your guys's thoughts on transferring from ACE to Advertising major? I'm turning in the papers and my personal statement today but yea, I've been trying to investigate a little but unsure of the Advertising program at U of I. </p>
<p>Any comments about how good the Advertising program is? I see on their site that it is rated as one of the top 3 programs in the country for undergraduates and as rated by the faculty(could be biased).</p>
<p>For what it is worth, my daughter is considering (and has been admitted) to the advertising program at UIUC. </p>
<p>I was talking to a friend of mine, who is a tenured professor of Marketing and Advertising in a reputed school, last night regarding the program. Apparently the program is ranked in the top 5 programs in the nation (He said that UT Austin is probably the best in the nation).</p>
<p>One thing you should consider before transferring is that you are getting yourself into a niche area. Surely IMHO it makes your more marketable (pun un intended) since you will develop some specific skills. However, Advtg is not all that glamarous. Not everyone is in the production side of the world. However if you are interested in Market Research, Analysis or Account Management it may be a great option. </p>
<p>For what it's worth, I've seen a website that states that there should be a 12% increase in employment in Advertising, Marketing, Promotions, etc.. between now and 2016. </p>
<p>I don't think I could do that. For one, I don't think College of Comm. allows you to minor or maybe I'm wrong.</p>
