Good PE Classes?

I'm trying to figure out which PE class is best to take at Cornell. I've heard good things about bowling, but the hiking class (Afternoon Adventures) also caught my eye. How about soccer? is it very competitive and is a lot of skill required to play?

PS I'm not in the best shape.

I’m going to try and take walking (woot woot), mostly because I’m super unathletic and have already given Cornell all the money I have to give (there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of free gym classes, unfortunately. the very fact that they have the nerve to charge for gym classes sickens me, to be honest).

If I can’t get that, then I’ll try this backpacking course I guess. I’d love to do jogging, but it just doesn’t fit into my schedule. Same with swimming conditioning. Ugh.

Good luck! (Sorry I don’t have much in the way of actual advice)

I took yoga first semester. I don’t remember exactly what the fee was, but even just going the bare minimum of times required to pass, it was still cheaper than paying $15 for a yoga class in NYC (which is where I’m from). Same with spinning and cardio kickboxing.

Caving was really cool. It takes up a whole weekend, one Sunday afternoon, and two hours of a Thursday night. I prefer that to having to consistently go to a class.

Saugus, do you mean the caving class was Thursday night through Sunday afternoon, or a sat-sun weekend plus those times? And that’s it? That’s the whole thing? That sounds great. Where do you go? And where do you sleep?

Bowling is notoriously easy; it’s pretty convenient too. Beginning volleyball is a great class and the guy who teaches it is a riot. Taking something interesting is a great way to meet people. Whether you played all through high school and will connect with other athletes or you’re inexperienced and will bond with others who struggle, it’s a great opportunity to make some great friends.

^^
It was a weekend trip (Friday afternoon through Sunday evening), plus a Sunday afternoon introduction to caving (and you get to rappel off of the football stadium, but you don’t have to) and a two-hour Thursday night meal/clothing planning session.

I personally prefer that to having to go to another P.E. class (like basketball) 25 times, though I suppose it works out to roughly the same amount of hours.

You go to three different caves around the Albany area. They’re really cool; you get to see the stalagmites, etc.

The lodging is the worst part. You have to sleep in sleeping bags in an absolutely disgusting lodge. The wood is cracked and decaying and there are even car seats in there as furniture; that’s how bad it is. I saw a mouse in there. I would rather sleep in a tent or even a Motel 6 than that lodge.

If you want an easy, enjoyable weekend trip class, then I would pick Swedish massage. They get to go to vacation-style cabins.
