Good PE classes

Does anyone know about sport classes like basketball, soccer, or ice hockey?

Is Dance Technique I good? It’s an intro course, but I’m afraid I’m going to be far out of place if it’s mostly dance majors who have prior experience taking it.

Can anybody tell me about the sailing (intro/non-comp) class?
I really want to try it, but idk… also I thought it would kinda be a pain later on in the semester when it is cold and you have to go sail and the wind hitting u and everything. any thoughts?

are transfers required to take Pe?

@kapenak the cold, the wind and the failures are all part of what makes sailing sailing! It’s also a great way to enjoy Cornell’s underappreciated lake(s). Unless you’re someone who’s afraid of getting a little bit wet or the weather is so bad all the classes are canceled, you won’t regret the lake PEs.

@igniterain all the dance intro courses are dance intro courses. All PE is meant to get you moving and active. There are separate dance classes for dancers. I have yet to meet a dance major though :/.

@goricking. most dance classes are popular and fill up, tango being one of those. I think ballroom is the only one that definitely requires signing up with a partner but it’s definitely a better experience for any dance class if you sign up with a partner… except perhaps belly dancing.

if you are competing in a D1 sport, do you still need to take the 2 PE courses to graduate?

No, you get credits for playing the sport.

I’m also wondering how the sports courses are such as Basketball, Tennis, Ice Hockey, etc.

Do you actually learn to play and get better?

I’m taking Judo, anybody else taking it? or boxing or such

^ oooo come join us in TaeKwonDo.

I took advanced Riding and boxing … both were pretty good! Boxing was was great - but the riding class can be a bit crowded.

Recreational golf was a pleasure to take and I would reccomend it to anyone who who is a casual golfer or beyond, bc you just have to go play 10-2hr long rounds throughout the course of the semester.

i really want to do badminton, but it’s full… is there anyone willing to drop it and give their place to me? lol.

haha, sorry, i really like badminton too :stuck_out_tongue:
did you sign up for the wait list? i’m sure there’ll be kids dropping badminton later on…
besides, there’s always the add/drop in august.

is boxing a very intense class - i’m looking for a class that will be fun and interesting, but not too tiring (the only boxing section that fits into my schedule is in the morning, 20min before my first class of the day…)

Here’s some agressive recruiting from me :D.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/961918-tae-kwon-do-cornell.html

TKD

haha, the sabu seems like an interesting person to know, but i have a funny feeling he might chuck me out for being a little weakling& a disgrace to the sport and my nation (i’m korean, tho not international)

well, everyone starts off as a pathetic weakling lol just like in everything else. He’ll give rants about this and that and you’ll here this from him for sure: he likes people who try on their own intiative. Talent is only part of what it takes to be a champion. Join us!

boxing is tough but definitely not too tiring to take in the morning. He starts out slow, and then the workout gets harder as the semester goes on. I really liked it though, and would definitely recommend it. I took the 8am course and didn’t mind going to a 10:10 course - I just stayed on campus and got breakfast. I found that it actually woke me up for the day :)

about the sailing class–it’s over by the beginning of october, so you will not be out in a boat in extremely cold weather. i’m taking the intro large boat and its a blast, and amazing especially when the sun’s out. plus its a neat skill to have and you get to take the boats out on your own outside of class if you pass the test.
