i thought my essay was pretty good and so did my english teacher. it was about a foreign exchange student who i became great friends with, and i talked about how he opened my mind to other cultures and taught me lessons about appreciating people with different backgrounds.

I can’t tell you about Wash U but the reading score is a bit low for one of the extremely selective schools. You might want to look at the some of the smaller hppt://theaitu.org schools. They usually have very good physics programs and a lot of opportunities to take engineering courses as well (maybe an applied physics program). Plus, they are all pretty challenging!

If your goal is to go to graduate school in physics after your B.S., look for a research university with a track record for strong preparation for Ph.D. programs. You don’t have to go to a top 1 program in physics for your B.S. to get into a top graduate school. The curriculum is the same in all physics programs and if you get good grades, get involved in research and have strong letters of reference from faculty who know you well, you can get into just about anywhere. Last year, our physics graduates from [Illinois Institute of Technology](http://www.iit.edu) got into MIT, UC Berkeley, Cal Tech, Univ. of Wisconsin Ph.D. physics programs.

Really? Wow, that completely changes how I should look at colleges. Are you a professor at Illinois Institute of Technology?

what is your wage in grocery store?

I get $8.25/hour. Does that have anything to do with what colleges I can get into?
