can you give me some good places to grab a bite to eat around stanford and maybe something that you really like to get when you go there?

Look up Noah's bagels in Palo Alto. That, or eat at the Fish Market (also in Palo Alto). Both good.

Hobee's, Hobee's, Hobee's. In Town and Country Village, near the campus. It's breakfast and sort of "California American Casual", which means they don't fry things. Open from freaking early in the morning until 9 PM. The coffeecake is fabulous.

www.hobees.com . You'd want the Hobee's Stanford location, which is the best one anyway.

grin I am not an employee, I just go there a LOT.

omg totally forgot about hobee's. such memories. Like honestly, it would be a tough choice between admittance to Stanford and a lifetime supply of Hobee's coffeecake......

(and since so many ccer's seem to be sarcasm-deaf: THE ABOVE POST WAS SARCASTIC)

....but hobee's does rock.

omg...hobee's blueberry coffeecake!!! i don't even like blueberries and i still love it.

also, applewood's pizza is really good. i'm pretty sure they're in downtown menlo, but maybe its downtown palo alto.

In downtown Palo Alto, there is California Pizza Kitchen and the Cheesecake Factory, which both seem to be very popular with Stanford students. There are also lots of Asian and Italian restaurants although they can be expensive. Miyake Sushi is also popular. At Stanford Shopping Center, there is PF Changs, and Peninsula Creamery (good burgers, shakes, etc.). At Town and Country Village, probably closest to campus, there is Hobee's as mentioned above. Also Rojoz, which are wraps, Cold Stone Creamery, pizza, Village Cheese House (great deli sandwiches if you don't mind a gazillion calories), Kirk's (burgers) Peet's Coffee, and good French pastries at Douce France.

Izzy's Bagels, Subway, Quizno's, etc are all on California Avenue, a few blocks south of campus.

This year, one of my favorite restaurants, St. Michael's Alley, won for "Most romantic restaurant" (It is a few blocks from University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto). It is quite small and cozy. Castro Street in Mountain View (a 15 minute drive) has tons of great ethnic restaurants--hard to choose from all the offerings.

You can tell I've lived here a while :).
