Good places to volunteer? Do research?

Where are some good places to volunteer for someone who is interested in the sciences, and a little math/computers?? Some things I would except out of the experience who be improved social/leadership skills, a better understanding of certain majors, something significant that will change my life and my view of things. I'm just looking for one or two places.

I have decided already to volunteer at a local library during the summer for a reading program. I also want to do science fair research. What is the best way to conduct experiments and labs? I've heard of people being able to work with college professors and using labs from schools. How do you gain such wonderful opportunites? Thanks in adv. for your help!

You might want to try looking on sites of local universities and hospitals.

Thanks for the reply Has anyone actually undergone the process of being able to work with a college professor on a science fair project?

Lots of people at my school do through a course we have in school called Advanced Research. They just go for an interview with professors from area universities and that's it. I don't know what area you're from but Philadelphia has Monell Research Labs that's pretty good
