Hi people, been looking in the forums for a while and decided to make a account Sooo I was just thinking if this is a good plan going into highschool
Classes I’ve taken or going to in a while
Algebra 1 H
Physical Science H
Geometry H
Biology H
And in the summer P.E
Freshman Year
Algebra 2 H
AP World History
English 1 H
Chemistry H
Academy Elective
Spanish 1
In the summer pre calculus at CC
Sophomore Year
AP Calculus AB
AP Biology
English 2 H
AP Psychology
Academy elective
Spanish 2
Any comments or recommendations?
Why do you want to take AP Calc AB in sophomore year? Are there any easily accessible math classes beyond that at your school?
Would algebra I cover topics in algebra II? I believe some colleges want to see Algebra I and II.
@MCP6789 OP has already listed both Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.
I took algebra 1, and just taking it over the summer sounds good ig I’m really bored in it
Ah I see, I misread your post. What math could you take after AP Calc?
I’d look into the cc pre-calculus and make sure it’s going to be an appropriate course for you. Are they using the same text as honors students at your high school? Are you aware that cc courses taken in high school count for your college GPA?
Also think about what you will do when you exhaust your high school’s math program. You should make a 4 year plan.
You are missing a history class sophomore year.
I plan to dual enroll in the local cc so that’s not a problem, after ap calc ab , would go BC
It doesn’t sound like a good plan - too much, too soon, and not enough sleep. I’m guessing you’re in the 8th grade and finding it easy, right?
If you think colleges would be impressed… they wouldn’t. They’d wonder - why Calculus in the 10th grade? Why AP bio in the 10th grade? What’s your end game here?
For instance, calculus is what top colleges expect you to take senior year. Colleges outside the tippy top are fine if you took PrecalculusHonors as a senior (and for those outside the top 100, precalc non honors is okay).
While taking AlgebraH and Geometry together can make sense, taking both BEFORE freshman year doesn’t quite compute, nor does taking precalculus over the summer (it’s definitely NOT a class to take over the summer).
If you want to accelerate, you can plan to take Algebra1H in 8th grade, Geometry in the summer, Algebra2 freshman year, precalculus sophomore year, then reassess to see if you take AB in the 11th grade and BC in the 12th, or if you accelerate yourself with calc1&2 at a community college junior year, and Linear Algebra+Discrete Math at CC senior year. Do not rush the fundamentals. Complement with Art of Problem Solving.
Taking Foreign Language 1 in 8th grade would allow you to either have an extra period senior year (you’d complete Level 4 junior year) or to take Foreign Language AP (always highly valued).
Plan to take an art class: required in California and typically well-received elsewhere.
AP World History is often considered a senior-level AP, one of the courses whose content is the most intense. NOT a good pick for freshman year; a good AP pick for a freshman social science is AP Human Geography, taken alongside World History Honors. (AP World History builds on your having pretty good skills already - it’s kind of like Calc BC. You need a few prior courses before jumping in. An exception would be if at your HS the class has be re-designed compared to the typical AP curriculum in order to accomodate freshmen, but if the freshmen take the exam I doubt they pass in droves…)
Your science program should include Bio, Chem, and Physics. Physics can be AP Physics 1 or 2 or Honors Physics (which is more comprehensive than 1&2 and thus prepares better to the Subject test). Try to cover all 3 before jumping into AP Bio, especially as a sophomore. If you want to accelerate, you can take a science class during the summer AFTER you took all three, so, summer after junior year. You’ll see then if you want to take one, two, or three college science classes.
@coolboy321456 Listen to the advice @MYOS1634 gave you. Read it and reread it.
I took algebra and phsycial science in 7th, taking geo and bio rn, and pe in summer, and language is too long to take in summer
And Ap Bio in 10th cuz I could take it, just taking my opportunities, you jelly
Wow, I’m not sure if you were trying to be rude @coolboy321456, but that came off incredibly snide. @MYOS1634 was merely responding to your thread and giving you valuable advice. Saying “you jelly” is not okay, you asked for any advice when you started this thread and it is not appropriate to respond like this to someone who is trying to help you.
Ok, so you can’t start a language in the 8th grade at your school apparently - What about via online school?
Physical Science is NOT physics, but a little what “social studies” in 8th grade is to “History” in high school. So, you have to take physics (AP1, AP2, or Honors, depending on whether you plan on taking the Physics subject test.)
@IAMNotCreativ: thank you for this. OP is clearly still very young and (just as clearly) has no clue who I am, so s/he gets a pass in the category “little kids say dumb things sometimes because they’re clueless but they better wise up quickly”.
@MYOS1634
No problem.

It’s probably not worth taking precalc over the summer. You should listen to @mathyone and make a 4 year plan after determining your academic goals, but be sure to take advanced classes in areas other than your current interests unless you feel you won’t do well.
I’ll take it in summer, I’m a genius, and I said a language via online takes too much time
, I said it twice, want a third
If you’re such a “genius” then why can’t you make time to take the language class?
Language online is not very time-consuming, especially in the beginning courses of a language.
You can start now and cover most of the material during breaks, and finish in June&July. Level 1 of a HS language really isn’t that hard - it’s covered in one to two months in collegelevel 1, depending on the college. So if you feel ready for college level material, it shouldn’t be a big deal to cover this between now and the end of July, and it’ll make a big difference in the long run.
BTW, it doesn’t have to be Spanish, unless your HS only offers Spanish.
Most “advanced” students start high school post-algebra1 and post-foreign language 1 -since those two subjects are both evaluated based on level reached and not number of units taken. Since you’re trying to accelerate your program, it’d be a glaring absence.
Also, “I’m a genius” is never a good attitude to have. I’ve been there. I’ve heard it so many times. When you get to a point when stuff is actually hard for you, it’s crap for your self esteem.
