Good pre- MD/PhD majors at Rice

hey guys,
I wanna eventually get an MD/PhD in neurology or radiation oncology.
What are good pre-med majors for my career path? Specifically, I was looking into CogSci, but I noticed it wasn't a BSc, would it make a good pre-med major?

Biochemistry?

that seems like a pretty cool major. what about cogsci?

Hey there, quantumguy. I'm actually a pre-med freshman at Rice, and I'm majoring (or at least seriously considering) in cog sci. What I love most about cog sci is that it's interdisciplinary - it's a combination of courses in linguistics, psychology, computer science (I assume because of its applications for mapping the brain/neurological systems), philosophy, and neuroscience. The really cool part about the neuroscience courses is that they are taught at Baylor College of Medicine, which is right across the street in the Texas Medical Center. Also, I'm pretty sure cog sci is the only major which includes neuroscience courses, so if you're interested in exploring that field, the major might be a good idea.

I'm taking 2 courses in cog sci this semester, and I've really enjoyed them so far. If you'd If you'd like more specific information on the major, this might be a good source of info: http://www.rice.edu/catalog/2004_2005/PDF/CognitiveScience.pdf
