Good Pre med major help

So as i said in my other post im really interested in pursuing surgery spicifically neurosurgery but i know the main focus is keeping my gpa high and getting high scores on the MCAT, and getting into med school, im starting community college next month and transferring to a 4 year university, my question is what is the best major to pursue, i know i want to major in science but i dont know if i schould major in chemistry or biology, does anybody have good tips on a good pre med course and good classes to trake.

There is zero in the way of undergrad coursework that will make you eligible for either surgery or neurosurgery. Your eligibility to enter those field is entirely dependent on your standardized test scores and performance in med school.

As for far as majors–choose a field that interests you and you think you can do well in. The employment options for chemistry and biology majors are mediocre to poor should you not get accepted into med school.

Kiddos have classmates whose majors range from forestry to music performance to English lit to sociology to business to theology to engineering to secondary education. Plus the more traditional biology, neuroscience, biochemistry and chemistry.

(D1 mentioned that a good many surgeons she’s met so far were engineering or physics majors, but whether that’s due to their personality types [the"fix-it, hands-on mentality"] being attracted to surgery or merely coincidental to her experiences so far is hard to say.)

You know that pre-med requirements include, bio, chem, ochem, biochem, physics, math, statistics, English, sociology, & psychology.
